LocalFileLab is live

LocalFileLab is a new web project by Crimson Anchor Interactive. The platform brings tools for files and digital content together in one place – from everyday conversions to specialised tasks for PDFs, images, data, audio, fonts and 3D content.

What makes it different is where the work happens: the actual file processing takes place locally in the browser. Using the platform requires no upload of file contents, no user account and no installation.

The idea behind the project

Many small file tasks currently rely on separate online services: one converter for images, another tool for splitting PDFs, an OCR page for text recognition and yet another application for archives or audio files. This leads to inconsistent workflows, changing interfaces and the recurring question of which remote server is handling a file.

LocalFileLab is designed to bring those tasks into one clear platform. Every tool is organised as a focused studio built around a specific workflow. Users choose a task, open a file locally and see only the options that make sense for that format.

Files stay on the device

Privacy is not an optional setting in LocalFileLab; it is part of the technical architecture. The platform has no upload endpoint for file contents. Selected files are processed in browser memory and are not transferred to an external file server for the actual operation.

Temporary results exist only for the current workflow. They are not stored in a personal cloud workspace and are discarded when the tab is closed. Registration is not required either.

This approach is particularly useful for documents, internal work files, personal media or unpublished content where a conventional upload is not desirable.

What is already possible

At launch, LocalFileLab covers a broad range of file types and tasks, including:

  • Converting and compressing files
  • Merging, splitting and rearranging PDF pages
  • Recognising text in images and PDF documents with OCR
  • Processing images, colours and textures for digital projects
  • Inspecting or converting spreadsheets and structured data
  • Working with audio, video and font files
  • Opening or converting archives, ebooks and 3D models
  • Batch renaming, inspecting or locally encrypting files

Not every format supports the same features. The interface therefore adapts its tools to the selected file and communicates browser-specific limitations clearly.

One platform instead of many isolated tools

LocalFileLab is not intended to be a single file converter. It is an extensible toolbox where new studios can be added without changing the familiar workflow:

  1. Choose a studio.
  2. Open a file locally.
  3. Adjust the relevant settings.
  4. Save the result directly.

This creates a consistent environment for quick everyday tasks as well as more specialised workflows in development, design and content production.

Built for modern browsers

Processing uses modern browser APIs and runs on the device wherever possible. When a capability is not available everywhere, LocalFileLab provides practical fallbacks. Performance and maximum file size therefore depend on the device, available memory and browser capabilities.

The interface is designed for desktop and mobile screens. There is no need to install a traditional desktop application – a current browser is enough.

What comes next

LocalFileLab will continue to grow with more studios, additional formats, refined workflows and optimisations for larger files. Its core principles will remain unchanged: local processing, clear tools and a direct path from source material to a finished result.
